Kazakhstani rescuers dig for survivors, clear debris in quake-hit Afghanistan
Kazakhstani rescuers continue to work around the clock to clear debris after the powerful earthquake in the Herat Province, Afghanistan, Kazinform cites the press service of the Ministry of Emergencies of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
The Kazakh rescue squad managed to clear the rubble of damaged and collapsed houses after the earthquake in 76 areas in Naib Rafi village on the first day.
Physicians and paramedics of the Center for Disaster Medicine rendered medical assistance to 39 local residents, including 5 children.
29 Kazakhstani rescuers were dispatched to one of the areas hit by a strong aftershock to clear the debris and render medical assistance to 10 locals. Afterwards, the rescue crew returned to Naib Rafi village to resume digging for survivors.
Recall that Head of State Kassym-Jomart Tokayev gave an instruction to the Kazakh Ministry of Emergencies to send 45-man rescue crew to the quake-stricken Afghanistan to help rescue efforts.
The devastating earthquake hit the west of Afghanistan on Saturday, October 7.
