Kazakhstani stuns in 2015 Indian Wells opener

ASTANA. KAZINFORM - Kazakhstani tennis player Yulia Putintseva has advanced to the second round of women's singles at the BNP Paribas Open 2015 in Indian Wells, the U.S., Kazinform has learnt from Vesti.kz.

In the opening match Putintseva needed 1h 37 min to defeat world №58 Tereza Smitkova in two straight sets 6:4, 6:4. The Kazakhstani took their head-to-head rivalry to 1:1. Last time the two met in Luxembourg in 2013 where the Czech was stronger also in two straight sets 6:3, 6:3. Up next for Putintseva is world №6 Ana Ivanovic from Serbia. Another tennis player from Kazakhstan Zarina Diyas is set to kick off her Indian Wells campaign in the second round against Croatian Donna Vekic.
