Proper floodwater distribution allowed to fill water reservoirs and channel water to drought-hit lakes and rivers, natural pastures, and etc.

Since the beginning of the year Lake Balkhash received 15.4 billion cubic meters of water that is 4 billion cubic meters more compared to 2023, of which 3.3 billion cubic meters are floodwater. 17 billion cubic meters were discharged to the Caspian Sea. For the first time in the past 10 years, the Kapchagai reservoir in Almaty region was 100% full raising over 18 billion cubic meters. 80 billion cubic meters were directed to Kamysh-Samarskiye lakes in West Kazakhstan, and 839 million cubic meters were challenged from Ulytau to Kyzylorda region to reach lakes systems in Kyzylorda region.

Some 2.5 billion cubic meters were diverted to the Northern Aral Sea that is 400 million cubic meters compared to 2023. At the same time, water-saving technologies helped Kyzylorda region farmers save 200 million cubic meters of water also sent to the Aral Sea.

As earlier reported, the Kazakh Government will back bathymetric surveys to predict floods.
