Kazakhstanis won 2 gold medals at «Monaco Open» ju-jitsu tournament

ASTANA. KAZINFORM - Prestigious ju-jitsu tournament "Monaco Open" took place in Monaco last weekend. The event brought together the best sportsmen from the European continent, where two Kazakhstanis had tremendous triumph.

The tournament was held under the auspices of the NAGA - the North American Grappling Association, which is the largest grappling and ju-jitsu league in the world.

Chairman of the Supervision Council of the Federation of the MMA of Kazakhstan Aidar Makhmetov won the gold medal in the 79.5 kilogram category.

Initially, A. Makhmetov had to compete in the masters category (veterans), but there were no people competing in that category. Thus, he was offered to compete among young sportsmen.

He is 36 years old but he easily won against a French athlete in the semifinals and won the finals in two minutes by a submission hold.

36-year-old Maxim Gurov, who is also a former cyclist of the Astana team, won the tournament in the 97.5 kg category. All of his fights were decided earlier by submission locks.
