Kazakhstan’s 54 railway stations need modernization – minister
17.6 million passengers have been transported by railway in Kazakhstan this year, that is 6% more against the previous year, Kazinform News Agency quotes Minister of Transport Marat Karabayev as saying at the Government’s meeting today.
According to him, 21 million passengers will be transported by the end of the year.
In his report, Marat Karabayev stressed the importance of railway stations’ modernization to create favorable conditions for passenger transportation.
He said that 54 major railway stations out of 59 need to be modernized.
The railway stations of Kyzylorda, Shymkent, Pavlodar and Turkistan have already been overhauled. As for other railway stations, relevant technical documents are being developed and sources and mechanisms of funding are being determined.
Earlier, Minister Karabayev said that as many as 1,200 passenger railroad cars will be bought in Kazakhstan by the end of the year.
