Kazakhstan's agricultural results in 2024: Records, development and plans
2024 was marked by significant progress in Kazakhstan's agriculture, including record financing and yields. The editorial of the Prime Minister's website summed up the results of the year and explained how these achievements will affect the industry's development plans in 2025, Kazinform News Agency reports.
In 2024, Kazakhstan's agriculture reached new heights thanks to record concessional financing in the amount of 580 billion tenge ($1,139,166,690). These funds were used to provide loans to farmers, reduce interest rates and forward purchases. Already in 2025, the amount of financing will increase to 700 billion tenge ($1,374,856,350). With the favorable weather conditions in autumn and the introduction of advanced agricultural technologies, record harvests were collected: 26.7 million tons of grain (average yield of 16.1 c/ha), 3.2 million tons of oilseeds, 2.9 million tons of potatoes and 3.9 million tons of vegetables.
The republic's grain storage capacity remains sufficient for the new harvest with the total capacity of 30 million tons, including licensed elevators and farm storage facilities. Currently, the elevator occupancy rate is at 44%, and grain export work continues. According to the data, 3.5 million tons of grain were transported from August to November.
The sown area in 2024 amounted to 23.3 million hectares, of which 21.1 million hectares is the area of spring sowing. As part of diversification, the sowing of wheat, cotton and rice decreased, and the area of oilseeds and sugar beets increased.
Kazakhstan's export potential continues to grow: 6.3 million tons of grain have been exported since the beginning of the year, which is 52% more than in 2023. The main export destinations are Uzbekistan, China, Tajikistan and Iran. The total export volume is projected to reach 12 million tons.
Livestock farming continues to grow as well. The number of cattle increased to 8.2 million heads, while milk and egg production increased to 3 million tons and 3.7 billion pieces, respectively.
An important part of 2024 was the preferential leasing program for agricultural machinery worth 120 billion tenge ($235,689,660). In 2024, almost 10 thousand units of machinery were purchased, which is 50% more than last year. In 2025, it is planned to increase funding for the program to 450 billion tenge ($883,836,225), which will ensure further renewal of the technical fleet.
The Government also notes that agriculture remains one of the key sectors of the economy, ensuring the development of rural areas and improving the well-being of the population living in rural areas.
