Kazakhstan’s Bublik stuns ex-world №10 in Montpellier to reach quarterfinal

Kazakhstan’s Alexander Bublik stormed into the quarterfinal of the ATP 250 tournament Open Sud de France in Montpellier, Kazinform News Agency has learnt from the Kazakhstan Tennis Federation.

In the second-round match the 2nd-seed Kazakhstani eliminated Canadian Denis Shapovalov in three sets 1-6, 7-6, 6-3. The match lasted for 2 and a half hours. Throughout their encounter, Bublik fired 10 aces against 16 of Shapovalov.

Bublik took his head-to-head rivalry with Shapovalov to 3-0 as he previously scored wins against the Canadian in Marseille in 2020 and Madrid in 2021.

In the quarterfinal Alexander Bublik may face another Kazakhstani Alexander Shevchenko seeded 6th at the tournament or French Gregoire Barrere depending on who wins the second-round match.
