Kazakhstan’s Minister of Water Resources and Irrigation Nurzhan Nurzhigitov discussed potential cooperation issues with the U.S. Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to Kazakhstan, Daniel Rosenblum, and the Director of the USAID Central Asia Regional Economic Development Office, Laura Cismo, Kazinform News Agency reports citing the Ministry’s press service.

Earlier, the Ministry had several meetings with the United States Geological Survey (USGS). The sides agreed on cooperation in exploration and study of groundwaters. The Ministry drafted a memorandum which had already been submitted to the USGS for approval.

In turn, Daniel Rosenblum noted that the U.S. side was ready to assist Kazakhstan in flood prevention, responding to them and fight against their consequences by inviting American experts to Kazakhstan.

Nurzhan Nurzhigitov also touched upon the issue of upgrading qualification of water management professionals. The Ambassador and the USAID representatives informed the Kazakh side of various international programs which offer training for local specialists.

“We are ready for joint work in all possible areas: from the implementation of water saving technologies to groundwaters exploration. The USAID is actively involved in regional programs in the territory of Central Asia. Therefore, our Ministry pursues a goal of strengthening the bilateral cooperation,” said Nurzhan Nurzhigitov.
