Kazakhstan’s water use estimated at 25bn cubic meters a year
Water use is estimated at 25bn cubic meters in Kazakhstan, with around 17bn used in agriculture, Kazakh Majilis deputy Yedil Zhanbyrshin said, Kazinform News Agency correspondent reports.
Kazakhstan consumes 25bn cubic meters of water per year. Of this, 17bn is used in agriculture, with losses amounting to 60% due to the outdated irrigation system and channels, said Zhanbyrshin at a briefing in the Amanat party office.
He called for the use of the latest technologies to save water resources.
According to the World Bank outlook, Kazakhstan is to see reduction in water resources from 90 to 76 cubic meters per year by 2030. The country is to face water shortage of around 12-15 cubic meters or around 15% in the next eight years.
