Kazinform to celebrate its 105th anniversary in 2025
Year 2025 marks the 105th anniversary of the Kazinform International News Agency. For over a century, the Agency has been covering events in politics, economics, education, healthcare, sports, culture and other important spheres.
On August 13, 1920 the Orenburg-Turgay branch of the Russian Telegraph Agency (ROSTA) under the All-Union Central Executive Committee was established.
Later, the Agency’s name was changed several times – it was called as KirROSTA, KazROSTA, KazTASS.
In 1937, it started operating under the name of KazTAG as part of TASS – Telegraph Agency of the Soviet Union.
In different years, the Agency was led by Arkady Vyatich-Kirillov (1937-1938), Konstantin Nefyodov (1939-1940), Jusip Altaibayev (1953-1958), Kenesbay Ussebayev (1959-1960), Kassym Sharipov (1961-1974)б Kakimzhan Kazybayev (1977-1982), Zhumagali Ismagulov (1982-1987), and Amangeldy Akhmetalimov (1987-1997).
After Kazakhstan gained its independence, KazTAG was transformed from the News Agency under the Council of Ministers to the Kazakh State News Agency with its previous name.
In November 1997, KazAAG (Kazakh Akparat Agenttigi) Kazakh News Agency was set up on the ground of KazTAG. It was led by Murat Arenov.
In 2002, JSC Kazakh News Agency National Company was established. In different years, it was headed by Gadilbek Shalakhmetov (2003-2004), Zhanay Omarov (2004-2006), Dauren Diyarov (2007-2016), and Assel Tulegenova (2016-2017).
In 2019, JSC Kazinform International News Agency was established. Having merged with JSC Kazcontent, the Agency operated as a separate media holding and was led by Askar Umarov. In 2021, Nashirali Yeldos Bigeldiuly was appointed the Chairman of the Board of Kazinform International News Agency.
In 2022, Kazinform International News Agency joined the Non-Commercial Joint-Stock Company “TV and Radio Complex of the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan” which was led by Raushan Kazhibayeva.
In 2023, Non-Commercial Joint-Stock Company “TV and Radio Complex of the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan” was reorganized into the Republican State Enterprise on the Right of Economic Management “Television and Radio Complex of the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan” with “Qazaqparat” – “Kazinform” International News Agency being part of its media family.
In 2022, Kazinform News Agency stepped into a new stage of its development, launching a new website and changing its editorial policy, both in terms of content of the materials published and in terms of expanding its analytical studies with an exclusive component.
Kazinform’s journalists work from Russia, Kyrgyzstan, China, Uzbekistan, Belgium, Azerbaijan, Jordan, Turkiye, the U.S., Armenia, Great Britain, and Turkmenistan.
The Agency covers news in Kazakh, Russian, English, Chinese, and Uzbek languages. It also uses the Latin-based Kazakh alphabet and the Arabic alphabet to provide news to our compatriots residing abroad.
The Agency also has accounts in Instagram, Telegram, Facebook and YouTube.
In 2024, Kazinform's English-language editorial team began actively expanding its original content. Instagram and YouTube accounts were launched, which now serve as additional platforms for publishing fresh and interesting materials.
In 2024, the Agency launched a series of podcasts (BIZDINORTA) in the Kazakh and Russian languages, focusing on a wide range of issues related to politics, economics and society.

In 2024, TV and Radio Complex of the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan and Al Jazeera Media Network launched the first joint project “Al Jazeera Week.”
More than 100 students of the International School of Journalism of the Maqsut Narikbayev University underwent a week-long training from world-class lecturers and journalists. The project also offered 4 public lectures for Kazakhstani journalists and media professionals. At the next stage, the journalists of the Presidential TV and Radio Complex will be able to train at the Al Jazeera Media Institute.
