Keen frosts and snowstorms to batter Kazakhstan

Mets issued a weather warning for 16 regions of Kazakhstan and the city of Astana on January 24, Kazinform News Agency cites Kazhydromet.

Fog is expected to blanket Almaty today.

Keen frosts are forecast to grip the mountainous districts of Almaty region, with the mercury dropping as low as -31 degrees Celsius

High wind is predicted to sweep through Akmola, Abai, Aktobe, Atyrau, East Kazakhstan, Zhambyl, Zhetysu, West Kazakhstan, Kyzylorda, Kostanay, Mangistau, North Kazakhstan, Turkistan, Ulytau regions.

Severe frosts are forecast to grip Karaganda. Air temperature is reported to plunge to -35-38 degrees Celsius.

Zhetystu region is also expected to observe biting frosts with mercury standing at -30-333 degrees Celsius.

As earlier reported, a storm alert was in effect throughout Kazakhstan.
