Khorgos Int'l Boundary Cooperation Center is unique project - Senator Adyrbekov

The Khorgos International Boundary Cooperation Center is a unique project of transfrontier cooperation. Senator of the Kazakh Parliament Ikram Adyrbekov has given such estimation in an interview to a Kazinform correspondent.

According to Ikram Adyrbekov, the Khorgos International Boundary Cooperation Center and the second railway line between Kazakhstan and China (Altynkol-Khorgos) open new opportunities for development of bilateral relations, especially, in the trade sphere.

In June the heads of state set the task to the two countries' governments to bring the level of trade to USD 40 bln by 2015 and raise cargo turnover twofold-threefold. "I think this is the real figure, because today we carry cargo in Kazakhstan (more than 15 million tones), and after launching the second rail line, this figure will double, and the same will be with trade. The trade between the countries will develop intensively," he noted.

Touching upon the opening of the Khorgos International Boundary Cooperation Center, the Senator added that it will influence on increasing the volume of trade between our countries. "I am confident that the Khorgos International Boundary Cooperation Center will operate for the benefit of the peoples of the two countries," I.Adyrbekov said.

The issue on creation of the Khorgos International Boundary Cooperation Center was voiced during a visit of President of Kazakhstan Nursultan Nazarbayev to China in December 2002 for development of boundary trade-economic, scientific-technical and cultural cooperation of Kazakhstan with China.
