Killed militants planned major terrorist attacks in Chechnya
MOSCOW. February 28. KAZINFORM The militants who were killed in a special operation in the North Caucasus Republic of Chechnya had planned a series of major terrorist attacks in the republic, the National Antiterrorism Committee (NAC) said; Kazinform refers to RIA Novosti.
Three militants were killed in the village of Yandi on Saturday in a clash with Russia's security forces. Police said several bombs were earlier uncovered at various sites in the republic's capital Grozny and destroyed.
The discovery was made following checks after the Russian Federal Security Service (FSB) received information that a group of suspected militants planned to set off the explosives using mobile phones.
Police later found a house where the gunmen were hiding. "Three gunmen received fatal injuries in the clash with the Interior Ministry's troops," the statement said. None of the law enforcers who participated in the operation was injured; Kazinform cites RIA Novosti.
