KazMunaiGas (KMG) National Company for the first time started shipping Tengiz oil in the open seas since mid-2023, KMG CEO Magzum Mirzagaliyev told in an interview the company’s press service.

He said last year was full of positive things. KMG and Abu Dhabi Ports Group (ADP) set up a joint venture and acquired two tankers, Taraz and Liwa to transport Kazakhstani oil in the Caspian Sea. Today the joint pool of KMG and ADP tankers (four Aframax tankers) ship Tengiz oil from Novorossiysk sea port and further around the world.

He expressed interest in expanding the Aframax tankers fleet up to 12 within a couple of years to ship no less than half of Tengiz oil. He noted it is a complicated process.

Currently, KMG has seven oil tankers: Astana, Almaty, and Aktau each with a deadweight of 12,000 tonnes, Aframax tankers: Alatau and Altai each with a deadweight of 115,000 tonnes and Taraz and Liwa tankers each with a deadweight of 8,000 tonnes.
