Korea plans to assist Uzbekistan in promising projects
The main purpose of the visit is to discuss the main directions of the Korea's grant assistance, visits to the project sites, as well as consideration of existing and future projects, the report said.
The KOICA President plans to meet with First Deputy Prime Minister of Uzbekistan Rustam Azimov, as well as the representatives of the Ministry of Foreign Economic Relations, Investments and Trade, the Ministry of Labor and Social Welfare and the Ministry of Agriculture and Water Resources. Yong Mok also plans to attend the launch of the Saemaul Undong ("Movement for a new village") program in the Tashkent region, Trend reports.
KOICA was established in 1991 to manage Korea's grant aid and technical cooperation programs in the developing countries by transferring development experience. Over the past 22 years, KOICA jointly with the Uzbek government has implemented 23 different projects worth more than $71 million, which ranks first in terms of the volume in Central Asian countries. From 1992 to 2013, more than 1,350 Uzbek specialists were trained in Korea.
A framework agreement on grant assistance of the two new projects was signed between the governments of South Korea and Uzbekistan in early August, according to the KOICA office. These projects are the creation of the Center for Professional Training in Shakhrisabz city including consulting to increase the capacity of vocational training in Uzbekistan and the project on the strengthening of the potential of "Uzstandard" agency through application of ICT.
KOICA has allocated $8,000,000 and $7,000,000 for these projects respectively which have already started. Today eight projects and cooperation programs are being implemented in Uzbekistan with the assistance of KOICA of which total budget amounts to $9.2 million this year.
