Kostanay region to build dry port
Kazakhstan plans to build a transport and logistics complex (dry port) in the city of Kostanay, with the annual capacity of 300,000 containers, Kazinform News Agency reports.
The project set to be implemented in 2024-2025, is estimated at 37 billion tenge. As many as 500 people are expected to be employed thanks to its implementation.
According to Olzhas Nurgaliyev, chief of the local passenger transport department, road freight transportation in the region reached 4.9 million tons in nine months of 2023. 292,000 cargo transport vehicles were registered by the region’s six checkpoints, which is 22% compared to the previous year.
The region imported mostly timber, construction materials, agricultural products, automotive spare parts and foodstuffs, and exported transport vehicles, vegetables, fruits, consumer goods, ore processing products etc. In whole, 4,421 carriers have been registered in the region as of today. In 2025, the authorities plan to reconstruct Kairak border checkpoint.
