Kyrgyz athletes win 452 medals at major international tournaments in 2023
In 2023, Kyrgyz athletes won 452 medals at major international competitions, Director of the Department of Sports and Physical Culture Aibek Abdymomunov told at a press conference at Kabar Agency.
Of these, 153 are gold, 119 are silver and 180 are bronze.
“This year has become historic for domestic sports. At the 19th Asian Games, Erlan Sherov won gold in judo for the first time. Also, Aisulu Tynybekova became a three-time world champion, and Zholoman Sharshenbekov and Akzhol Makhmudov won the title of world champions for the second time. At the World Boxing Championships, Munarbek Seitbek uulu won bronze, and Amantur Zhumaev became the world champion among juniors,” Abdymomonov said.
At the same time, he added that today Kyrgyz athletes have won five tickets to the Summer Olympic Games in Paris 2024 - wrestlers Akzhol Makhmudov, Zholaman Sharshenbekov, Aiperi Medet kyzy, Aisulu Tynybekov and swimmer Denis Petrashov. In addition, para-judoka Khaithon Khusan kyzy received a ticket to the Summer Paralympic Games.
“In 2024 there will be a number of continental and world competitions where tickets to the Olympics will be awarded. By participating in them, we plan to win about 20 more trips,” added Abdymomonov.
