Kyrgyz official: China-Kyrgyzstan-Uzbekistan railway is breakthrough for all of Central Asia
Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers - Minister of Water Resources, Agriculture and Processing Industry Bakyt Torobaev held a meeting with Deputy Director of the Department of Foreign Capital and Overseas Investment of the National Development and Reform Commission of China Zhang Jianhua, Kabar reports.
"We and our Chinese partners are firmly convinced that the China-Kyrgyzstan-Uzbekistan railway project is not just another infrastructure project, but a strategic step that will open up new horizons for the economic development of not only our countries but the entire region," Torobaev said.
The parties discussed in detail the key issues of the project implementation, noting that it will not only reduce the time and cost of transportation but also become an important element of China's global One Belt, One Road Initiative aimed at strengthening economic ties between Asia and Europe.
"The China-Kyrgyzstan-Uzbekistan railway is a breakthrough for all of Central Asia. It will contribute to the growth of trade, attract investment and create new jobs, as well as improve the standard of living of the population in the region," Bakyt Torobaev said.
An intergovernmental agreement on cooperation to promote this project was signed in Beijing on June 6, 2024. Subsequently, on July 26, 2024, a joint project company, China-Kyrgyzstan-Uzbekistan Railway Company LLC, was registered, which was an important step towards the implementation of the plans.
"We understand that the implementation of such a large-scale project requires not only financial investments but also close cooperation between all interested parties. It is important that each participating country feels its involvement in this process and can contribute to the common cause. We are ready to work on creating favorable conditions for investors and ensuring transparency at all stages of the project implementation," concluded Torobaev.
