Kyrgyzstan, EU discuss ways to deepen trade and investment cooperation

The 20th meeting of the Subcommittee on Trade and Investment of the Kyrgyz Republic - European Union took place in Bishkek under the chairmanship of Deputy Minister of Economy and Commerce Iskender Asylkulov, Kabar reports.

The meeting discussed key issues and opportunities for further development of bilateral relations in the field of trade and investment, the Ministry of Economy said.

Both sides emphasized the significant potential for promoting cooperation, which can contribute to strengthening economic ties. These meetings provide a unique opportunity to exchange information on the current situation in the economy and identify future steps to realize the existing potential.

The Kyrgyz side presented information on the progress of economic reforms and further plans for the country's development. Special attention was paid to the new model of economic growth, which shifts the focus from traditional raw material exports, including agriculture and gold, to industrialization and production of goods and services with high added value. This transformation is aimed at long-term sustainable development of the country's economy.

The meeting also considered important issues related to the participation of the Kyrgyz Republic in the European Union's Generalized System of Preferences Plus (GSP+), the process of ratification of the Agreement on Enhanced Partnership and Cooperation between the Kyrgyz Republic and the European Union.

Export control issues, as well as cooperation in attracting investments from the European Union countries, with a special focus on the development of the regional economy, were also additionally discussed.
