Kyrgyzstan gives the US a note on Military Base Agreement termination
Kyrgyz President Almazbek Atambayev in late June has signed the bill denouncing the agreements. The paper was supported by all the parties of the Parliament and special committees.
Cooperation and lease agreements between the US and Kyrgyzstan were signed in 2009. According to the note, the treaties' duration due to expire on July 11, 2014.
The military base in Kyrgyzstan was established in 2001 to support the US troops fighting in Afghanistan. A few years later it was renamed as the Transit Center but the essence of the object did not change: the American military specialists were still in Bishkek.
