Kyrgyzstan launches campaign ’16 days of active action against gender-based violence’
Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers of the Kyrgyz Republic Akylbek Zhaparov held a meeting on preventing cases of violence against women, during which he gave a symbolic start to the global campaign “16 days of activism against gender-based violence”, which began last week, KABAR reports.
In his speech, Akylbek Zhaparov noted that the issue of preventing cases of domestic violence is one of the priorities of the government.
He instructed the heads of law enforcement agencies, local authorities, and social services to strengthen work in this direction.
The head of the Cabinet of Ministers also gave instructions to review current government programs and activities on this topic, update and include new measures to protect and support women.
“Promoting equality and gender policy is not just a trend, buzzwords or fulfillment of our international obligations. It is the foundation of a healthy, just and prosperous society. Therefore, we will make every effort necessary to protect every member of our society to create a safe, secure and prosperous life. The policy of preventing violence against women and girls will remain the focus of the government of the Kyrgyz Republic,” he said, adding the need for measures to financially and economically support women.
