Kyzylorda region to grow new rice varieties

Kyzylorda region is set to grow new high-yielding rice varieties with a short vegetation period, governor Nurlybek Nalibayev said, Kazinform News Agency reports.

Scientists test several varieties. As the pilot project claims the new rice varieties yield increased by 10 centners and grew by 10-25 days earlier. The new rice varieties may be sown in the region since 2025, the governor told a briefing at the central communications service.

To breed the new varieties of rice and other crops the region pays great attention to the Zhakayev Kazakh scientific research rice growing institute. Recently was signed an agreement on cooperation with the Kazakh Agriculture Academy on scientific and innovative development of the agro-industrial complex of the Aral Sea region.

He added the region harvested 503,000 tons of rice at large.

The governor said the region’s agricultural export potential is growing, the sales markets are expanding.

For the past two years, the region's exports reached 84 million US dollars with 96% of exports accounting for processed products.
