Largest data center in Jordan to be launched by end of 2023
The Aqaba Digital Hub (ADH) is set to launch the largest data center in Jordan and one of the largest in the region, with a capacity of 6 megawatts, by the end of this year in Aqaba, according to Eyad Abu Khorma, the CEO of (ADH), Petra reports.
Since the start of construction of the JD100 million project, it generated jobs that would reach approximately 300 direct and indirect jobs for Aqaba's community by the end of 2023, he said in an interview with the Jordan News Agency (Petra).
The cable landing station in Aqaba recently received the BlueMed cable, which is part of the Blue & Raman Submarine Cable Systems built by Google and Sparkle, significantly aiding in providing affordable and high-speed internet to service providers, telecommunications operators, digital content providers, and local and regional institutions, he added.
The new data center has been linked to the neutral Internet exchange point, AqabaIX. This exchange point allows for data exchange between the data center and local telecommunications companies, internet service providers, and digital content providers, therefore speeding up access times and reducing the cost of data exchange, noted Khorma.
The project, he continued, aims to create a secure platform for sensitive data that adheres to the highest international standards, serving both as a primary data center and as a backup center for business continuity and disaster recovery purposes.
Khorma mentioned that the project formed collaborations with prominent global corporations to share their expertise and skills and provide training programs and workshops, once the center is launched, in cooperation with governmental and educational organizations to empower the local community.
Jordan has emerged as a key global center and distribution point for submarine cables that will connect Europe and India for the first time, greatly enhancing the importance of Jordan as a connection point, thanks to the flexible legislation and regulations governing the communications sector, he noted.
