Latvia’s parliament approves new government led by Dombrovskis
Sixty-three parliamentarians voted for the new government and another 35 - against.
The new government will consist of prime minister's Unity bloc, which won 33 seats in the 100-seat parliament in the election on October 2, and the Union of Farmers and Greens with 22 seats.
Members of the center-right Unity alliance will head seven ministries - finance, foreign affairs, economics, defence, culture, internal affairs and justice and members of the Union of Framers and Greens - another six ministries.
"This is a reality that we need to recognize noting that four political forces represented in the parliament were given a historical opportunity to create the broadest coalition that has ever existed in Latvia," Dombrovskis said ahead of the parliament's session.
The two parties signed a governmental declaration on Wednesday. The main task of the new government is to take further efforts to stabilize Latvia's economic situation and to overcome deep economic downturn.
"Our team will be able to continue the economic stabilization program and to fulfill other tasks set in the declaration," the prime minister said.
The opposition is represented by Harmony Centre that has 29 seats in the parliament and protects interests of Latvia's Russian-speaking minority, the national alliance To Fatherland and Freedom with eight seats and For a Good Latvia with eight seats.
