Lawmakers want to protect Kazakhstani kids from harmful information

ASTANA. KAZINFORM - Majilis, the lower chamber of the Kazakh Parliament, has passed in the second reading the draft law "On protection of children from information harmful to their health and development" at its plenary session today.

The bill was drafted by a group of Kazakhstani lawmakers in order to protect children's rights in accordance with generally recognized principles and norms of international law aimed at ensuring information security of children and stipulated in the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child ratified by Kazakhstan. The law prohibits the distribution of materials harmful to minors' health and development. Members of the chamber also passed in the second reading corresponding amendments to the law. Both bills will be submitted for Kazakh Senate's consideration.
