«Lianyungang - St. Petersburg» int'l highway to be launched by SCO

BEIJING. November 20. KAZINFORM - Transcontinental Highway "Lianyungang - St. Petersburg" has been planned to be launched in 2017, according to the statement made in Beijing by the Deputy Foreign Minister Cheng Guoping.

According to him within the forthcoming meeting of Heads of Governments of the SCO member states in Tashkent it is expected to sign an agreement on the creation of favorable conditions for international road transport. "We hope to sign the document will facilitate the opening of the international highway "Lianyungang - St. Petersburg". The new route will expand trade and economic relations between the SCO member states", said the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of China.

The travel time from the port of Lianyungang on the east coast of China to St. Petersburg and the borders with the European countries will take about ten days. Motorway will provide the most modern facilities including intellectual property system and the number of logistics centers. The route of the new road will pass through Kazakhstan.

It bears to remind that November 28 - 29 Tashkent will host the 12th meeting of the heads of the SCO member states' Governments.

The Shanghai Cooperation Organization is a regional international organization founded in 2001 by the leaders of China, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan. Afghanistan, India, Iran, Pakistan and Mongolia have an observer status in the organization. Dialogue partners of the SCO are the countries of Belarus, Sri Lanka and Turkey.
