Libraries closures in Kostanay region blamed on urbanization

Five libraries have been closed in the Kostanay region due to the population shift from rural to urban areas, Kazinform News Agency reports.

According to the Department of Culture of the Kostanay region, two more libraries have been relocated.

“A rural library named after Grishin, located in Denisov district, the Aitbay rural library in Amangeldi district, a library at Alash agro company LLP in Akkarga village and a library unit in Zhetikara district, the Kharkov rural library in Auliekol district were closed in accordance with the resolutions of district akimats,” the department said in a statement.

Closed libraries in the districts of Karabalyk and Uzunkol were also transferred to other locations.

As of January 1, 2025, the total number of registered libraries in the region stood at 336.

As reported earlier, the Kazakh capital is set to build one more industrial park in the Astana - New City free economic zone.
