Magnus Carlsen-led WR chess team wins 2024 World Blitz Team Championship in Astana
The FIDE World Rapid and Blitz Team Championships 2024 wrapped up in the Kazakh capital today, with Magnus Carlsen-led WR chess team winning the Blitz tournament, Kazinform News Agency correspondent reports.
The 2024 World Blitz Team Championship was held today, on August 5, in two stages, with a time control of 3+2.
Magnus Carlsen-led WR chess team included former world chess champions Alexandra Kosteniuk of Switzerland and Hou Yifan of China, former world chess champions Alexandra Kosteniuk of Switzerland and Hou Yifan of China, world vice champion Ian Nepomniachtchi of Russia, 44th Chess Olympiad winner Nodirbek Abdusattorov of Uzbekistan, Rameshbabu Praggnanandhaa of India, 2021 Chess World Cup winner Jan-Krzysztof Duda, 2022 World Championships silver medalist Vincent Keymer of Germany, and founder of WR Group Holding GmbH Wadim Rosenstein.
The WR chess team ended up third in the rapid tournament.
To note, the FIDE World Rapid and Blitz Team Championships 2024 kicked off at the QazExpo Congress Center in Astana on August 2. The tournament brought together 315 chess players completing in 39 teams.
