Majilis approved in first reading bill on further humanization of Kazakhstan criminal legislation
ASTANA. November 17. KAZINFORM /Muratbek Makulbekov/ Today at its plenary session the Lower House of the Kazakh Parliament has adopted in the first reading the bill on amendments to some legislative acts of the Republic of Kazakhstan on further humanization of criminal legislation.
The document aims at humanization of the criminal legislation, bringing it into compliance with the standards of legal state and reduction of repressive criminal justice.
"Imprisonment is excluded from 18 components of little gravity crimes. Fines and restraint of freedom will be the main forms of punishment for these crimes", Deputy Prosecutor General of Kazakhstan Johan Merkel said presenting the bill.
He noted that adoption of the bill will allow decriminalizing the crimes which do not pose danger to society, transferring them to the category of administrative offences and enhancing administrative responsibility for their commitment.
