Majilis Chairman U. Mukhamedzhanov had several meetings in Japan

ASTANA. November 26. KAZINFORM Speaker of the Kazakh Majilis, who was heading a delegation of Kazakhstan to Japan, met yesterday with Takahiro Yokomichi - Chairman of the House of Representatives of the Japanese Parliament, President of the House of Councilors Takeo Nishioka as well as with Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry Akihiro Ohata, Prime Minister Naoto Kan and Secretary General of the Democratic Party of Japan Katsuya Okada, Kazinform refers to the press service of the Lower Chamber of the Kazakh Parliament.

Having congratulated Mr. Katsuya Okada on appointment to this post, the Kazakh Speaker told about the activity of Nur Otan People's Democratic Party, its faction in the Parliament. Along with this, U. Mukhamedzhanov noted that Kazakhstan was interested in the experience of party building in Japan. The parties agreed on importance of establishment of partnership relations between two ruling parties of Kazakhstan and Japan.

At yesterday's meetings in Tokyo it was noted that the official visit of the Kazakh President to Japan in June 2008 demonstrated the countries' huge potential for bilateral interaction. Diplomatic activeness of Kazakhstan - the OSCE presiding country - and the international policy of the new administration of Japan proved commonality of both sides' positions on solution of the urgent problems of modernity.

The Speaker of the Kazakh Majilis confirmed Kazakhstan's aspiration for close cooperation on the international arena and joint implementation of the nuclear disarmament and non-proliferation initiatives, rehabilitation of Afghanistan. The Kazakh side expressed appreciation for assistance in rehabilitation of the Semipalatinsk region and support of the Kazakh President's initiative to announce August 29 the International Day against Nuclear Tests and adoption of a corresponding Resolution of the UN General Assembly.

Kazakhstan expresses interest in legislative provision, preservation of social stability and increasing the living standards of the Japanese society amid the global financial crisis.

The parties noted that opening direct flights between two countries was one of the relevant issues of bilateral relations.

Speaking on various aspects of cooperation Chairman of the Majilis noted high level of bilateral cultural humanitarian ties. For example, both Japan and Kazakhstan enjoy active cooperation in education. 21 Kazakhstan students are studying currently in Japanese universities under Bolashak state program. The Centre for International Programs JSC has established contacts with 10 leading universities and scientific-research centers of Japan.

The parties also stressed that regular interparliamentary meetings should become an important element of the political dialogue.
