Majilis OKs amendments to treaty between Kazakhstan and Lithuania on legal assistance

Deputies of the Majilis, the lower chamber of the Kazakh Parliament, endorsed a draft law on the ratification of amendments to the Treaty between Kazakhstan and Lithuania on mutual legal assistance in civil and criminal matters, Kazinform News Agency reports.

After its approval, the draft law was submitted to the upper chamber of the Kazakh Parliament, Senate.

The treaty was ratified on November 9, 1998. It outlines the procedure and conditions of providing mutual legal assistance in civil, family and criminal matters.

As per the treaty, the Ministry of Justice and the Prosecutor’s General Office are the points of contact in the matters mentioned in the draft law.

The protocol on amendments to the treaty was inked in August 2022.

The ratification of the protocol will further facilitate strengthening of bilateral cooperation in providing legal assistance in civil and criminal matters and protection of rights of citizens of Kazakhstan and Lithuania.
