Priorities of Kazakhstan’s chairmanship in the CSTO in 2024 were outlined at the joint session of the Council of the CSTO PA and the 16th plenary session of the CSTO PA in Moscow, Kazinform News Agency reports.

Majilis Speaker Yerlan Koshanov reminded that the priorities of Kazakhstan’s chairmanship in the CSTO were previously outlined by Head of State Kassym-Jomart Tokayev at the November session of the Collective Security Council in Minsk.

“We will concentrate on deepening cooperation of the CSTO with the interested countries and international structures in the security sphere. It is crucial to maintain the interaction with the UN and its structures and at the same time deepen cooperation with the CIS and SCO,” the Kazakh Majilis Speaker noted.

“Utmost attention will be paid to the development of the CSTO peacekeeping potential through active work of the Special Representative of the CSTO Secretary General,” Koshanov said.

He also added that there are plans to step up joint work to counteract illegal arms and drug trafficking as well as fight cybercrimes in the CSTO area of responsibility.

Yerlan Koshanov also commended the contribution of the CSTO PA to the development and harmonization of national legislations of the CSTO member states taking into account their interests.

He went on to express confidence that during the period of Kazakhstan’s chairmanship the organization will make great strides in terms of strengthening of collective security through concerted efforts and with the support of the CSTO working bodies.

The joint session of the Council of the CSTO PA and the 16th plenary session of the CSTO PA brought together representatives of Kazakhstan, Belarus, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Russia, Algeria, Iran, China, Serbia and the RSA.
