Man, woman hurt in escalator accident at Kostanay shopping mall

KOSTANAY. KAZINFORM - Two people have been injured during construction works at the Mart shopping mall in Kostanay.

The accident happened on Thursday evening (July 30). According to witnesses, the area above the escalator was under reconstruction, however, the escalator itself had not been shut down for planned repairs. An iron sheet with concrete mix came crashing down on two riders who were on the escalator at the moment. According to Kostanay police, a man, 50, and a young woman, 20, sustained various injuries as a result of the accident. Other visitors were evacuated. Police and ambulance were summoned to the scene.
