World Theatre Day is celebrated annually on the 27th March and is called to emphasize the importance of theatrical art in the cultural life of the society. Kazakhstan attaches particular importance to it given the rich cultural heritage and diversity of theaters and genres countrywide, Kazinform News Agency learnt from the Culture Ministry’s press service.

There are 67 theaters, including 57 state, 11 republican, and 46 regional theaters in Kazakhstan. Among them are ethnic, opera and ballet, drama and music drama, and puppet theatres. Theaters showed over 2,500 productions, including 309 new plays created in 2023. Last year artists staged over 12,000 performances for 2.5 million spectators.

Kazakhstan’s theatrical art stirred public interest not only countrywide but also worldwide.

Some 20,000 people are engaged in the theater which underscores both the cultural and socioeconomic significance of theater in society.
