Martynov to head Belarus' delegation at CSTO, CIS Councils of Foreign Ministers meetings in Astana

MINSK.  April 6. KAZINFORM Foreign Minister of Belarus Sergei Martynov will lead the Belarusian delegation to the meetings of the CSTO and CIS Council of Foreign Ministers in Astana on 6 April, Spokesman for the Foreign Ministry of Belarus Andrei Savinykh told media on 5 April.

The CSTO Council of Foreign Ministers will focus on the current global and regional security issues able to affect the Organization's member states and additional measures to collective cooperation in their addressing, BelTA reports.

The agenda of the meeting will include the issues of improving the mechanism of foreign political coordination of the member states including cooperation within international organizations. The foreign ministers are expected to discuss further steps to boost up a peacekeeping potential and its possible application in the future.

The meeting will be held on the eve of the May events dedicated to the 20th anniversary of the Collective Security Treaty and the 10th anniversary of the Organization, the preparations for which will be also discussed.

On 6 April Astana will host a meeting of the CIS Council of Foreign Ministers.

The Foreign Ministers are set to discuss the issues regarding the cooperation within the Commonwealth of Independent States, some of which will then be submitted to the CIS Council of Heads of State and the CIS Council of the Heads of Government.

The meeting will also focus on the draft agreements on the financial intelligence unit and the joint air defense system.

The draft documents on cross-border cooperation, culture, sport and tourism will be also on the agenda.
