Mayor of San Francisco proclaimed December 16, 2010 as Kazakhstan's Heritage Day

WASHINGTON-ASTANA. December 18. KAZINFORM A flag-raising ceremony was held at San Francisco City Hall on December 16 to mark Independence Day of Kazakhstan; Kazinform refers to the Kazakh Embassy in the USA.

The ceremony was organized with support of Kazakhstan's Honorary Consul Mr. Kenneth Derr, retired Chairman of the Chevron Corporation.

In his message to Mayor of the City and County of San Francisco Gavin Newsom Kazakh Ambassador to the United States Yerlan Idrissov noted: "I am particularly pleased that the national holiday of the Republic of Kazakhstan is celebrated in one of the most dynamic and beautiful cities in the US. The United States was the first country to recognize Kazakhstan's independence in 1991. Our states established reliable strategic partnership relations."

"Today we mark the national holiday of Kazakhstan and confirm that sincere friendship connects our city with the people of Kazakhstan... In this regard, I, Gavin Newsom, Mayor of the City and County of San Francisco do hereby proclaim December 16, 2010 as Heritage Day of Kazakhstan in San Francisco!", was Mr. Newsom's reply.
