Measles cases surge among National Guard Academy cadets in N Kazakhstan region

Measles cases surged up to 75 in the North Kazakhstan region. 29 of them are the cadets of the National Guard Academy of Kazakhstan, Kazinform News Agency reports.

Most of those infected are from Petropavlovsk – 68. Two cases were detected in Magzhan Zhumabayev district and isolated cases were confirmed in Akkaiyn, Aiyrtau, Mamlyut, Kyzylzhar and Zhambyl districts.

Three cases were imported from the UAE, Russian Federation and Kyrgyzstan. 49 patients are aged 15 and older, while 29 patients are under 14. 79% of the patients are not vaccinated, chief of the regional sanitary-epidemiological department Asset Zhumatayev says.

Meanwhile, head of the regional healthcare department Kumar Kussemissov says the situation on measles in the region is stable.

48 patients including 18 children are receiving hospital treatment now, with no severe cases detected. 181 beds have been prepared for patients with measles. Two children and one adult have been hospitalized within the past 24 hours. As for the situation in the National Guard Academy, 29 out of 47 suspected cases have been confirmed. 645 cadets and employees underwent vaccination. In general, 3,540 people have been vaccinated, says Kussemissov.
