Medvedev and Obama had first telephone conversation
MOSCOW. January 27. KAZINFORM Russian President Dmitry Medvedev and his U.S. counterpart Barack Obama confirmed that they sought to meet shortly.
During their telephone conversation, Medvedev congratulated Obama on his inauguration and wished him the success. The presidents of the two countries confirmed that they were ready to join efforts to restoring the potential of Russian-U.S. relations, the Kremlin press service reported.
Russia and the United States face the common task ? the struggle against the consequences of the financial crisis. Medvedev and Obama agreed that there were common challenges ? the non-proliferation of weapons of mass destruction and the fight against terrorism. The leaders of the two states agreed to join efforts in this aspect.
Medvedev and Obama also stressed that it was important to settle the crisis in the Middle East and the situation in Afghanistan, Kazinform cites ITAR-TASS.
