Memorable show to be staged at 2014 Sochi Paralympics closing ceremony

SOCHI. KAZINFORM With two days remaining before the end of the 2014 Winter Paralympic Games, hosted by Russia's resort city of Sochi, organizers of the closing ceremony revealed on Friday some of the details of the upcoming show on March 16.

The thrilling show at the Fisht Stadium on Sunday night will be held under the motto ‘Reaching the Impossible' and will celebrate the magnificent achievements of the Paralympic athletes, who have shown the world that impossible is possible through strength of spirit and relentless pursuit of sporting victory, ITAR-TASS reports.

"We are not promising an extremely grand show, but can definitely say that it will be a very interesting ceremony," Konstantin Ernst, the head creative director of the Sochi ceremonies and the director general of Russia's television Channel One, said. "I hope that all ceremonies of the Olympic and Paralympic Games in Sochi are unique and the closing ceremony of the Paralympic Games will be somewhat different from the previous three ceremonies," he said. "Summing up the results of the current Games we wanted to bring up to the world the topic of the Paralympic movement during the upcoming closing ceremony," Ernst said adding that it was important for organizers to take into account that "the Paralympic movement becomes more and more significant to the world." He said that to a more significant decree the ceremony would be "the march to people, who managed to overcome difficult problems enforced by life." "Having displayed outstanding results, the triumph of their strength and the constant pursuit of their dreams, they made all of us following and admiring their achievements throughout the Paralympic Games," Ernst said. The official added that the ceremony would be also the final closing event both for the Olympic and Paralympic Games in Russia's Sochi and "it will be a very bright festivity." According to the organizers, the central hero of the closing ceremony will be Aleksey Chuvashev, Russia's rowing Paralympian and medalist of the 2012 Paralympic Games in London. During the ceremony he will climb a rope with his hands only to a height of 15 meters (almost 50 feet) demonstrating the wonders of strength and courage.
