MEPs slam 'discriminatory' Dutch website
The site asks people to complain about migrant workers from Central and Eastern Europe. The Dutch government has so far not condemned the initiative, something many at the European Parliament in Strasbourg on Thursday urged it to do, the Euronews reports.
''I'm against primarily just to shut it down, because that makes a big hero out of Mr Wilders.
I think the opposition must come from the public and from the government side. But the government is unfortunately still not saying clear words about this kind of website,'' said the leader of the Socialists and Democrats group Hannes Swoboda.
The EU parliament's Liberal group leader Guy Verhofstadt also condemned the website and the Dutch government's failure to come out against it.
''I think it is very important that the political leaders in Europe and head of state, and heads of government, are condemning such initiatives. Because they are destroying really the spirit of the European Union," he said.
Despite the widespread condemnation, the PVV has defended the site, insisting it is not discriminatory and they are listening to people.
''We're not talking about Xenophobic behaviour, or whatever, we're simply addressing the issue of massive labour movement. Something that the Commission knew beforehand, because when they opened the European Union to 10 new members in 2004, they already knew those countries were not ready," said Dutch Freedom Party (PVV) MEP
Auke Zijlstra.
The site urges users to enter a alleged offence before detailing problems presented by Eastern European migrants.
