Mexican police arrest for drug ties

MEXICO CITY. January 20. KAZINFORM Nearly two dozen policemen from the Mexican border town of Tijuana were jailed and face trial for supposed ties to drug trafficking, authorities said.

The 21 officers first arrested in November were accused of having ties to the notorious Arellano Felix brothers cartel, El Universal reported Monday. Drug trafficking is rampant along the Mexican-U.S. border, causing widespread violence in the region. Mexican President Felipe Calderon has ordered 20,000 federal troops to the region to help combat the fighting among rival drug gangs vying for control of the drug trade.
