Migration, fight with terrorism and extremism to remain on OSCE agenda during Kazakhstan's chairmanship - K. Abdrakhmanov

ASTANA.  December 23. KAZINFORM Issues of migration, fight with terrorism and extremism will be on agenda of the OSCE during Kazakhstan's chairmanship. Permanent Representative of our country to the OSCE, Chairman of the Mediterranean Contact Group Kairat Abdrakhmanov said it at the Conference on  Mediterranean partners and the OSCE: cooperation in ensuring security and stability  held in Cairo December 14-15.

A number of projects on solution of the abovementioned problems will be implemented together with partners on the initiative of Kazakhstan and under financial support of the OSCE, K. Abdrakhmanov noted.

The conference participants also focused on military-political aspects of security in the region of the OSCE and Mediterranean area. Issues of cooperation with the Mediterranean partners in migration, prevention and struggle against illegal migration and human trafficking as well protection of human rights and freedoms were discussed.

The participants noted the latest changes in the region and the world connected with the economic and financial crisis. The growing number of women in migration processes was pointed out. Alongside, the women become victims of various discriminations, violence and exploitation still. In this view, gender equality will remain in spotlight of the OSCE activity.

The parties highlighted the role of partners in realization of the decisions adopted recently at the Athens Conference of the OSCE Foreign Ministers regarding development of Corfu process, countering trans-national threats and other documents. Prospects and certain ways of strengthening cooperation with the Mediterranean partners of the OSCE including the propositions on admission of new partners, first of all, the National Administration of Palestine were considered.

The event was a final one for our country since Kazakhstan terminates its functions as the Chairman of the Contact Group and delegates its authorities to Lithuania which is to chair the Mediterranean Contact Group in 2010.
