Nearly 800,000 Kazakhstani children aged under 6 are not protected from dangerous infections such as diphtheria, poliomyelitis, tuberculosis and others, minister of healthcare Azhar Giniyat said at the Cabinet’s weekly meeting today, Kazinform News Agency reports.

The minister links the growth of infections and disease incidence rate to the legislative norms introduced in 2015, which allow the parents to refuse from the vaccination.

In her words, hundreds of thousands of children in Kazakhstan missed their vaccination against a number of dangerous diseases.

As many as 800,000 children aged under 6 have not been vaccinated against such dangerous infections as diphtheria, poliomyelitis, tuberculosis and are not protected from them. In this regard, the ministry together with local executive authorities are working on additional vaccination of the children who missed their scheduled immunization, she said.
