Minsk to host first meeting of CIS council for cooperation in fundamental science
According to BelTA, the draft agenda of the meeting includes 14 issues including election of the chairman of the Council, the establishment of the inter-state fund for fundamental research and innovation, removal of legal and other barriers to joint research projects and programs, the establishment of working groups to prepare proposals on priority areas and forms of cooperation.
Members of the council will also consider harmonization of the legal framework for cooperation in the field of fundamental science, and a number of other issues.
An idea to set up the CIS council on cooperation in fundamental science was first announced in the meeting of the heads of state scientific organizations in Bishkek in October 2008. The draft agreement on the council was developed by the National Academy of Sciences of Kyrgyzstan. The document was finalized in 2009-2010. It was adopted at the meeting of the CIS Council of Heads of Government in Minsk in May 2011.
Under the agreement, the council is to foster cooperation between governmental bodies, organizations involved in fundamental research. The council will elaborate proposals to define priority areas and forms of cooperation, implement interstate programs and projects, improve the legal framework of cooperation, exchange information in fundamental science.
