Given the dynamic development of Mangistau region, upgrade of its utility infrastructure and increasing its capacity has become one of the key problems, governor of the region Nurlan Nogayev said Monday at a press briefing of the Central Communications Service, Kazinform News Agency reports.

In this light, according to Nogayev, modernization of the Mangistau nuclear power engineering plant where wear and tear of key equipment stands at 81% is of paramount importance.

In line with the instruction of the Head of State a program of comprehensive modernization of the plant has been developed.

Regional authorities reportedly earmarked 2.6 billion tenge to replace the most worn-out equipment at the plant. 4.9 billion tenge more will be spent on the purchse of new equipment at the instruction of the Prime Minister.

Another pressing issue, according to governor Nogayev, is the reconstruction of utility networks in Aktau. Some 919 km of utility networks (water, wastewater disposal, heating) are to be modernized in 25 micro-districts of Aktau by 2026.

Supply of potable water also presents a challenge in Mangistau region where water shortage exceeds 77 cu m per day during summer months. Six projects on water desalination with the total capacity of 136,000 cu m per day are to be implemented in the region by 2025. On top of that, construction of new desalination plants is underway in several parts of the region.
