Moldova to adopt new approach to settling Dniester conflict
"Quite a favorable international situation for the settlement of the Dniester conflict has formed now. It is marked by high interest and obligations of the foreign partners involved in the talks," Karpov said.
He said the meeting of the profile commission with the participation of Premier Vlad Filat the other day decided to review the documents earlier signed and to work out a new strategy of settling the conflict.
At the same time Moldova continues with measures for confidence-building between the two banks of the Dniester. For this purpose every department will have officials responsible for relations with the unrecognized republic and for continuity of actions.
Karpov confirmed the stand of the Moldovan government regarding the solution of the Dniester problem by peaceful mean only, by means of the open negotiating process in the framework of the existing five plus two formula (Moldova, Dniester region, OSCE, Russia, Ukraine, and observers from the United States and the EU). "It is apparent that this decision must rest on the principle of Moldova's independence and territorial integrity in the framework of internationally recognized norms," he said.
