Moldovan secret service confirm Gaddafi son’s visit to Chisinau

CHISINAU. March 4. KAZINFORM Moldova's Information and Security Service on Thursday confirmed that a son of Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi was on private visit in Chisinau on January 19; Kazinform refers to Itar-Tass.

The service's statement came after a corresponding parliamentary request. The service stressed that the Al Islam Gaddafi's visit took place before the United Nations imposed sanctions against the Libyan leader and his family members.

Late on Thursday, Moldova's internet media posted photos featuring Saif Al-Islam Gaddafi attending an opening ceremony of an exhibition of painter Nicoletta Stati, the daughter of Moldova's richest businessman Aanatol Stati engaged in oil business in a number of CIS countries and in Africa.

Earlier in the day, Moldova's former acting president Mihai Ghimpu also confirmed that Gaddafi's son visited Chisinau.

"At our request, the Information and Security Service has confirmed that an Al Islam Gaddafi, born in 1972, visited Moldova on January 19, 2011. He arrived by plane from Vienna, spent one day here and left the country on January 20," Ghimpu, who is now a member of the Moldovan parliament, told journalists; Kazinform cites Itar-Tass.
