Mongolia to hold Ten Thousand Camel Festival to promote winter tourism
Mongolia launches several events with the national brands to promote winter tourism and attract foreign tourists, Montsame reported.
One such event is the Ten Thousand Camel Festival being held since 1997.
Dalanzadgad soum of Umnugobi aimag will host the event for the 26th consecutive year.
Scheduled for February 1-3, 2025, the event will feature camel-centric games and competitions such as camel races for castrated camels, three-to-five-year-old male camels, and two-year-old camels, as well as selection of the best male camel and the best female camel, and also nomination of the "Most Beautiful Couple on Camels" from the visitors.
The Ten Thousand Camel Festival aims at raising two-humped camels, passing on herding techniques, rituals, and traditions, and developing camel culture and sports.
The event has been steadily developing, with camel races organized since 2016, and setting a new Guinness World Record with 1,108 camels crossing the finish line.
It should be noted that some 9,000 foreign and domestic tourists attended the Ten Thousand Camel Festival in 2023.
Earlier, it was reported that starting January 2, 2025, Mongolia will officially use both the Cyrillic and traditional Mongolian scripts in state and local government documents.
