Mother and her unborn baby die in Aktau
AKTAU. KAZINFORM "A woman, aged 39, and her unborn baby died in Aktau. The young mother died from amniotic fluid embolism. An emergency caesarean section was performed but the doctors failed to safe the infant," head of the healthcare department of the Mangystau region Ruslan Bektubayev said.
Amniotic fluid embolism is a rare and life threatening complication during pregnancy or childbirth, often resulting in death. It occurs when amniotic fluid enters the blood system of a pregnant woman. Up to 50% of patients die within the first hour after the onset of their symptoms.
The Kazakh Healthcare Ministry's commission formed to determine the exact cause of the woman's death has started its work.
