National Commission on Women?s Affairs and UN sign agreement on joint financing gender equality project in Kazakhstan

ASTANA. February 20. KAZINFORM /Aigul Tulekbayeva/ The National Commission on Family and Women?s Affairs under the President of Kazakhstan and the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) agreed on joint implementation of the project on ensuring gender equality in Kazakhstan, Kazinform reports.

From the side of the UNDP in Kazakhstan the document was signed by its representative, UN Resident-Coordinator Haoliang Xu and from the Kazakh side ? by Advisor to the Kazakh President, Chairman of the National Commission on Family and Women?s Affairs under the President of Kazakhstan Gulshara Abdykalikova. Financing the project will be parity that is USD 300 thousand from each side. The term of the project?s realization is three years ? from 2009 to 2011. ?This project will be social one. It is very important to support social layers of the population in the face of the world crisis. At first, we will pay a great attention to small business including the women?s business. As is known, 40% of the small businesses are formed by women?, - G. Abdykalikova said. According to her the project provides holding round tables, conferences and training seminars. In addition, research concerning state demographic policy will be carried out in the context of the project, in particular divorcers among young families, infant and maternal mortality and others will be considered as well.
